Take a bow-wow, Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers!

July 2018

Just announced: first-ever dog-friendly itineraries and the stunning Night Garden!

As if petal power was not enough! In a historic move, the acclaimed Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers has TODAY launched Petals & Pups – its official dog-friendly program, completely dedicated to hounds and their humans and in salute to Toowoomba’s first canine ambassador, ‘Puppy’ the Pomeranian.

Dogs have always been a part of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. At the very first Carnival parade in 1950 the Toowoomba Thistle Band’s drum major, Mr Hugh Morgan, set the benchmark with his tartan-clad pooch ‘Puppy’ marching alongside the ensemble. Today a statue commemorating ‘Puppy’ stands at the iconic Picnic Point parkland which overlooks Toowoomba’s scenic panorama of the Great Dividing Range.

The pawsome Carnival program which boasts more than 30 dog-friendly activities, 27 off-leash parks and 20 human-and-hound accommodation stays, was announced this morning at Picnic Point with Millie the Pomeranian and her canine companions donning flower collars for the special occasion.

Cr Geoff McDonald also showcased another new experience for the 2018 Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, the stunning NIGHT GARDEN powered by Ergon Energy. To be staged in Queens Park from Wednesday September 26 through to Sunday September 30 nightly from 6.30pm, the Night Garden will be a magical experience, an adventure starring illuminations of all sorts – immersive glowing colours and lights, installations, LED lighting and ground to sky brilliance.

Both new programs are just part of the overall Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2018 which features more than 66 unique events and experiences, including beautiful garden tours, internationally acclaimed music acts, some of the region’s best food and wine, and a multitude of cultural and natural adventures over 10 glorious days from September 21 to 30.
