Holy Holy

Following sold-out performances across the East Coast for their Port Rd Tour in early 2021, Holy Holy have released their second single from their forthcoming album. How You Been is grandiose and compelling new single which sets yet another benchmark for the band, incorporating pop influences alongside a foundation of synth, programmed drums and percussion.  Tim Carroll and Oscar Dawson lean into their natural talents as storytellers, exploring life’s complexities through the lens of a broken heart.

“It has a lot of the hallmarks of what we do,” Tim says. “At the core of it, it’s a classic Holy Holy song in the sense that there’s real storytelling. A character based, lyrical theme plays out,” says frontman Tim Carroll. “Then there’s Oscar’s emotive chord progressions that subtly influence the way you feel. They feed into the lyrics. You don’t realise why, but you’re listening to the song and certain emotions come up,” he adds.

The single follows on from the urgent and ambitious Port Rd feat. Queen P, who joined Holy Holy on their east coast tour. Both singles hit #1 most played on Australian youth network triple j. Their 2019 ARIA and j-Award Nominated album My Own Pool of Light has received critical reception with an ARIA nomination for Best Rock Album, a J Award nomination for Album Of The Year as well as a triple j feature album on release and was this weekend voted in at number 5 on the triple j listener album poll.

Featuring lead singles Teach Me About Dying, Faces and Maybe You Know,  My Own Pool of Light is an undiluted representation of HOLY HOLY’s vision, from the songwriting to the recording process and, ultimately, their decision to self-produce. It’s an album that incorporates new sounds and fresh ideas and in the process redefine exactly what kind of band they are.
