Scenic & Tasty Self-Paced Trips

Toowoomba and Surrounds

Driving yourself is the perfect way to explore the Toowoomba Region as you can pull over anytime and take a rest or take a selfie!  You can explore at your own pace and go wherever your heart desires.  Jump in the car and travel from attractions, gourmet restaurants, and some of the best and quirky pubs in town!

We’ve done the hard work and designed a selection of themed self-drive foodie itineraries so you can make the most of your visit to Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. Discover the foodie highlights of Toowoomba and surrounds with these local trips.  Plan your trip and spend a few days in the region.

Choose your flavour:

  • Beers and Burgers Whether it’s a takeaway dinner to feed the family or a gastropub feed for a crowd, Toowoomba takes the combination of beers and burgers very seriously! We’ve rounded up some of our favourite combinations across the city, with options for families, Sunday sessions and sports bar traditionalists.
  • Cellar Doors We love a good glass of wine, so it won’t surprise you to learn that we have an amazing selection of cellar doors! Ranging from full restaurant experiences to a roadside stand, this is our favourite way to meet the makers behind our favourite drops.
  • Cocktails Toowoomba’s nightlife has always included good old-fashioned country pubs, but there’s a slew of new bars popping up to offer options for lovers of cocktails. This selection includes French laneway lounges, Spanish tapas and rooftop bars.
  • Country Pubs While the hospitality scene in Toowoomba is increasingly about cool cafes and bars, there will always be a place in our hears for a proper country pub meal! We’ve rounded up some of our favourite traditional pubs in the region, serving cold ones and rump steaks generation after generation.
  • Cycling Options  Offering a range of both easy, family-friendly rides as well as extreme downhill mountain biking options, Toowoomba is gaining a reputation as a haven for cyclists.  Because we’re also devout foodies, we’ve paired three of our favourite rides in town with somewhere to get coffee or lunch afterwards.
  • Foodie Families Do you have a budding little foodie in your family? Luckily there’s a whole range of kid-friendly adventures in Toowoomba that are all about food and drink – from a 100 year old soft drink company to handmade chocolates. Get out and about for some family foodie exploring!
  • Favourite Finds Sitting as we do in Queensland’s food bowl, it’s no wonder Toowoomba is turning out some seriously incredible food venues.  This round-up includes our local favourites – the places we take people when we want to show off how great our city is!
  • Fill You Esky After the 2020 bushfire season, there was a national push to head regionally and ‘fill your esky’ – meaning take a trip and buy local produce that supports the local economy. Lucky for you, the local produce in Toowoomba is world-class!
  • Girls Weekend Welcome to Toowoomba! This itinerary was designed as a showcase of our young hospitality entrepreneurs and some of the best food and drinks in town.
  • Local Foodies Guide We’ve put this foodie itinerary together for you to remove some of the decision-making – there’s just so much to choose from here!
  • Meatlovers Although no longer a ‘country town’ Toowoomba has very strong ties to the local producers and farmers in the greater Darling Downs region. So it’s no wonder we’re serious about our meat!
  • Picnic Basket Fillers With public parks left, right and center – as well as foodie spots to stock up on supplies – Toowoomba is perhaps the perfect picnicking city (if we do say so ourselves!).
  • Vegan Friendly For a whole host of reasons, people are making the switch to plant-based foods and looking for cafes and restaurants who will accommodate them. Toowoomba has more and more menus that are either completely vegan or vegan-friendly.

Explore the beauty of Toowoomba, discover our spectacular public parks, colourful gardens and vibrant community events with one or two (or all!) of these itineraries.
