The Grand Central Floral Parade is the icon event for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and is the only fresh floral street parade of its kind in Australia. 2009 marked 60 years since the very first street parade wound its way through the city and a record number of 135 entries were received providing a fantastic visual spectacular for the huge crowds that lined the streets throughout the route.
A number of new categories were introduced including Best Dressed Bicycle, Carnival Characters and the Diamond Anniversary Category, specifically created in celebration of the magnificent floats seen from 1950s to 1960s.
As the official commencement of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, the Grand Central Floral Parade attracts over 40,000 visitors and residents to the inner city streets. As any local will happily tell you, the floral parade is not to be missed!
You'll see spectacular floral floats, stilt walkers, local and visiting bands, walking groups and entertainers make their way through the CBD with true Parade fanfare! Be sure to book early for your undercover seats or take up a position along the parade route early to ensure the very best vantage point.
Adding to the Carnival atmosphere is the pre-parade entertainment and the opportunity for children in the crowd to make their own creative contribution by joining in the pavement chalk art activities prior to the Parade. Young artists literally make their mark on the parade route just prior to the Parade with FREE pavement chalk and hand wavers.
After the Parade’s arrival at Queens Park, the fun continues with a prize ceremony and the sale of potted flowers from the floats.
