Toowoomba Regional Council has endorsed the establishment of a Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers Advisory Committee to further enhance community input into the event.

Tourism, Events and Parks portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the committee would be expected to provide leadership and direction on the running of the event.

“The Carnival of Flowers has been a hugely successful community event, obvious from visitor numbers and feedback during its 60th anniversary last year.

“However we need to ensure it remains responsive to community needs and ideas. It must continue to evolve in response to changing times and demand.”

The Committee of Council today agreed that the advisory committee would consist of an independent chair, three representatives from the community, two councillors (one being the Tourism, Events and Parks portfolio leader) and two TRC staff members nominated by the CEO.

The committee will be expected to provide council with expert advice on the strategic and creative direction of the Carnival and on community engagement and sponsorship.

“We want to make sure the Carnival maintains its position as a premier regional and State event.

“Community members will have an opportunity to nominate to be on the committee before any appointments are made and meetings will be open to the public.”

Cr Ramia said the advisory committee would present a report of each of its meetings to council but that day-to-day contact with council would be through the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers office.
